Gossip Algorithms

چکیده
Unlike the Telephone network or the Internet, many of the next generation networks are not engineered for the purpose of providing efficient communication between various networked entities. Examples abound: sensor networks, peer-to-peer networks, mobile networks of vehicles and social networks. Indeed, these emerging networks do require algorithms for communication, computation, or merely spreading information. For example, estimation algorithms in sensor networks, broadcasting news through a peer-to-peer network, or viral advertising in a social network. These networks lack infrastructure; they exhibit unpredictable dynamics and they face stringent resource constraints. Therefore, algorithms operating within them need to be extremely simple, distributed, robust against networks dynamics, and efficient in resource utilization. Gossip algorithms, as the name suggests, are built upon a gossip or rumor style unreliable, asynchronous information exchange protocol. Due to their immense simplicity and wide applicability, this class of algorithms has emerged as a canonical architectural solution for the next generation networks. This has led to exciting recent progress to understand the applicability as well as limitations of the Gossip Full text available at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1561/1300000014

Reliable Probabilistic Gossip over Large-Scale Random Topologies
This paper studies reliability of probabilistic neighbor-aware gossip algorithms over three wellknown large-scale random topologies, namely Bernoulli (or Erdős-Rényi) graph, the random geometric graph, and the scale-free graph. We propose a new and simple algorithm which ensures higher reliability at lower message complexity than the three families of gossip algorithms over every topology in ou...
متن کاملGossip and Random Walk Techniques for Network Coding
Ad hoc and sensor networks usually do not have a central entity for managing information spreading. Moreover, such wireless stations have limited energy and computational power. All this leads to a need for distributed and efficient algorithms for disseminating information across the network. Network coding in conjunction with random walks and gossip techniques proposes a local and distributed ...

This paper continues with the study of the communication modes introduced in, University of Paderborn. The complexity of communication algorithms is measured by the num...
متن کاملBounds for algebraic gossip on graphs
We study the stopping times of gossip algorithms fornetwork coding. We analyze algebraic gossip (i.e., random linearcoding) and consider three gossip algorithms for informationspreading: Pull, Push, and Exchange. The stopping time ofalgebraic gossip is known to be linear for the complete graph, butthe question of determining a tight upper bound or lower boundsfor general...
متن کاملWhen Gossip Meets Consensus: Convergence in Correlated Random WSNs
We study the convergence of consensus algorithms in wireless sensor networks with random topologies where the instantaneous links exist with a given probability and are allowed to be spatially correlated. Aiming at minimizing the convergence time of the algorithm, we adopt an optimization criterion based on the spectral radius of a positive semidefinite matrix for which we derive closed-form ex...
